Browsing through a fly shop or exploring online options, the sheer variety of choices of fly leaders can be overwhelming, but if you stick with these proven and tested leaders you will have all you need.

As a guide and angler, I use different fly fishing leaders for different situations as well as for different fish.

The right leader helps my clients cast better, present the fly more effectively, and land fish. I’ll discuss things like:

• Strength and Diameter: The strength of the leader and the diameter need to be considered to ensure I have the right leader for the type of fish species and the method I want to use.
